Galtier Provides Injury Update on Neymar, Nuno Mendes After PSG’s Win vs. Lille

It was a rollercoaster ride for Paris Saint-Germain in their 4-3 victory over Lille OSC on Sunday at the Parc des Princes. After leading 2-0, the capital club was down 3-2, with anxiety beginning to set into the squad.

However, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi came to the rescue to pull out a win to end PSG’s three-game losing streak. Nonetheless, the victory came at a cost, with Nuno Mendes and Neymar Jr. suffering injuries.

PSG has only two Ligue 1 games until the return leg against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, so there are concerns about whether the two players will be fit. Manager Christophe Galtier provided an update on the two players.

“Neymar is suffering from a sprained right ankle,” Galtier told reporters postgame (h/t Culture PSG). “He left for tests to find out his seriousness. Nuno Mendes has stretched the internal lateral ligament a little but it does not seem very serious to me.

“For injuries, it is never due to chance. There are always reasons for injuries: the calendar, the sequence of matches. But that complicates things. It is necessary to make the round back, but this Sunday it is with a victory. It’s more pleasant.”

If Neymar misses time, PSG can lean on Mbappe and Messi to pick up some of the offensive slack. However, losing Mendes might be an enormous loss considering Juan Bernat has been a different player since his knee injury.

So these few days will determine how long both players will be out for during a critical part of PSG’s 2022-23 season.
