Christophe Galtier Notes PSG’s Mentality Heading Into Clash vs. Bayern Munich

This week has been a terrible one for Paris Saint-Germain. The week began with their elimination from the Coupe de France after losing 2-1 to Olympique de Marseille in the Round of 16 on Wednesday at the Stade Vélodrome.

Afterward, the situation would get worse as the capital club would fall 3-1 to AS Monaco on Saturday at the Stade Louis-II. PSG now have to focus on their UEFA Champions League opponent, Bayern Munich.

PSG manager Christophe Galtier spoke with Prime Video about his approach to Tuesday’s first-leg contest at the Parc des Prince.

“We have just had two defeats,” Galtier said postgame (h/t Canal Supporters). “We know that we have a big meeting on Tuesday. But there must be the sacred union until Tuesday so that we can remobilize everyone, regain energy [and] confidence. Find, I hope, players on Tuesday. It is a difficult time in a difficult calendar. We conceded a lot of goals. I think we are 14 goals conceded since the restart. We have to find a fair balance [and] more accuracy at the defensive level.

“As much as we had a reaction in the first period, as much in the second period, there were not many reactions. There were zero shots in the second half. It’s not enough for a team like Paris Saint-Germain. Unfortunately, that’s the current state of the team.”

Along with entering the first 90 minutes against the German giants in poor form, the French giants are also dealing with their share of injuries to the squad. Kylian Mbappe is out as a left thigh injury keeps him out of the first-leg contest, as PSG looks to get a win without their best player.

Furthermore, Lionel Messi will likely be playing in the match, but the 35-year-old could be limited due to a hamstring injury. Therefore, this week, Galtier will have his most significant task: Get PSG back on the right path against Bayern Munich.
