Paris Saint-Germain believed they were about to add Hakim Ziyech to their forward group on Tuesday. The 29-year-old winger would reportedly arrive in the French capital on loan; however, the move failed.
Chelsea reportedly sent the wrong documents three times, preventing the reigning Ligue 1 from filing the proper paperwork before the January transfer window closed. The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed details of what was occurring at Stamford Bridge that led to the failed move.
“Shortly before the deadline, I broke the news that they had reached an agreement on a loan with no option to buy that would include a loan fee to Chelsea,” Ornstein told Joe Tomlinson on a recent episode of “Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE.” “However, it hadn’t been signed. And therein lies the problem because it seems that when the documents were sent over by Chelsea, they were incomplete or incorrect, and therefore, they missed the deadline.
“Now, there have been some suggestions that Chelsea might not have wanted this to go through. Ultimately he’s actually been playing quite a lot for them and so if they had, they would have made sure the documents were fine. I don’t know, I haven’t done enough work on this to find out exactly if it was that or whether it was just chaos or clerical error because Chelsea were obviously dealing with the Enzo Fernandez situation as a priority.”
Manager Graham Potter recently revealed Ziyech’s emotions and didn’t sugarcoat how the player felt, as it seemed he’s be getting a fresh start in Paris. Nonetheless, it appears as though the English tactician is ready to welcome the player back with open arms.
The French giants are concerned about Neymar having lingering issues with his ankle knock that he picked up at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which is why he was rested in their 3-1 victory over Montpellier on Wednesday at the Stade de la Mosson.
Now Kylian Mbappe is out for three weeks after suffering an injury to the left thigh and missing the first leg of the UEFA Champions League clash against Bayern Munich; the failed move Ziyech loan transfer is becoming more noticeable as they could have used the Morocco international.
