Pablo Sarabia officially joined Wolverhampton on Tuesday. Wolverhampton and Paris Saint-Germain club officials came to terms on a reported €5 million deal for Sarabia, and the Spanish playmaker signed off on a two-and-a-half-year contract agreement with the Premier League side.
Multiple clubs were linked with Sarabia over the past weeks, but as Wolverhampton sporting director Matt Hobbs revealed to the club’s official website, the Spanish international declined other offers in order to take his talents to the Premier League.
“The player has shown right from the start his desire to come here,” Hobbs said. “He’s turned down other offers, more lucrative offers, because he wanted to team up again with the manager. We’re really happy to have him, and he’s really happy to be here.”
Hobbs added that Sarabia was also a transfer target of Wolverhampton manager Julen Lopetegui.
“When we appointed Julen, we met after the Arsenal game and had a recruitment meeting, and Cunha was on both his and our lists, so was Lemina and Sarabia,” Hobbs said. “One of the things we thought about before he came was the players that he worked with, and he got performing to a high level.
“Pablo was one who stood out because of what he did for Sevilla, and maybe he wasn’t getting as much game time as he would have wanted at PSG. We had him on our list and identified him, we spoke to his representatives and realized there may have been a possibility. To secure a player of that quality, at the fee we did, we’re really happy.”
Sarabia’s run at PSG came to an end after 98 total appearances logged for the Ligue 1 powerhouse. For now, all eyes are set on just when Sarabia will make his debut for Wolverhampton.
