Former Ligue 1 winner Ludovic Obraniak has claimed that Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe was the clear best French player in 2022.
Mbappe shined for both PSG and the France national team over the calendar year, from his crucial goals in the UEFA Champions League competition to his multiple game-winning goals for Les Bleus. He put the finishing touches on his year with a standout World Cup, where he logged 10 goal contributions.
For Obraniak, as he told L’Equipe, Mbappe was simply on another level last year.
“I can’t get out of my head what I just experienced and saw during Kylian Mbappe’s World Cup,” Obraniak said. “The World Cup for me is above everything. Kylian Mbappe is only 24 years old, he put a hat-trick in the World Cup final and finished top scorer. That’s incredible.”
Mbappe’s keen performances for PSG and France over the latter half of 2022 sure have helped him make a strong case to be among the early contenders for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award.
Overall, the French forward has already tallied 36 goal contributions for club and country this season.
