Former Ligue 1 Forward Discusses a Major Concern With PSG’s Messi, Neymar and Mbappe Trio

Former Ligue 1 forward Jerome Rothen is much concerned with the recent form of Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe trio.

For the first time in the second half of the season, Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe all played in a Ligue 1 fixture for PSG, as they each took part in its recent league away matchup against Rennes. Messi and Neymar each earned a start in the fixture, while Mbappe entered the match in the second half as a substitute. In the end, the trio combined for a mere four total shots in the contest, with three of them coming from Messi.

With what he saw from PSG’s superstar trio against Rennes, Rothen, as he touched on in RMC Sport’s “Rothen s’enflamme” program, sees cause for concern.

“This efficiency is less because offensively the players are not in their best shape,” Rothen said. “Against Rennes, Kylian Mbappe returned from vacation, so logically he was a substitute.

“The level of Messi and Neymar in the game of Rennes … It will not necessarily be the same, and I wish them, in three weeks or a month. That’s why we have to be vigilant.”

PSG will return to Ligue 1 action later this month with a home fixture against Reims.
