Which Albanian Football Players Have Played for PSG?

Unsurprisingly, football has transitioned into one of the most played and internationally-recognized sports all over the world. Economy-wise, it has also brought a potential number of opportunities for online bettors from different regions of the world. This is no surprise since an increased number of participants at Bet365 Albania and other prominent bookies have spiraled up. Albania, as a nation, has also begotten respectable football prodigies that have made marks on the grasses of famous football clubs outside their home.

When we see players from this region rushing to place their bets, we immediately consider that they are also a huge part of football today. Are you still surprised? Of course, Albanian players have made it into the big football games with prominent teams, including the famous PSG. And to be precise, two of the players from the Nationale played for the French team. Let’s look at both of them.

Lorik Cana

  • Full Name: Lorik Agim Cana
  • Place of Birth: July 27, 1983
  • Age: 39
  • Height: 1.86m
  • Place of Birth: Pristina, Kosovo
  • Football Position(s): Defensive midfielder, Center-back, Central midfielder

Lorik Agim Cana is one of the professional footballers from Albania that have played in PSG. Before his retirement in 2016, Cana played alongside other big players in the top divisions of famous football leagues, especially in France.

Notwithstanding, he still made appearances for the Albania national team, where he broke the record of being the most capped Albanian footballer of all time, at 93 caps. He first started playing as a central and defensive midfielder before he switched to playing the center-back position.

However, his pathway to playing for the famous PSG was not as easy as it sounds. From the young age of 16, Cana was first denied a British Visa to attend a trial for Arsenal. Upon this, the french team immediately jumped on it and invited him for a trial.

It was during this period, the then PSG reserves coach Antoine Kombouare capitalized on the talent of the youngster. This eventually led to Cana signing a contract with the team. Still, his first season was a nightmare, as he only made 4 appearances all through.

Although he made better stats and even scored his first goal in the next season, 2001-02, he sustained a knee injury on his 12th appearance. His career started gaining respect as his third season with the French reserve team brought him more lofty recognition.

His most successful season with the French team was in 2003-04/2004-06 when he became a starting player under coach Vahid Halilhodzic. During this season, Cana went ahead to feature in 32 games, scoring a goal, winning the Coupe De France, and carrying the team to second in the Ligue 1.

Edvin Murati

  • Full Name: Edvin Murati
  • Place of Birth: November 12, 1975
  • Age: 47
  • Height: 1.72m
  • Place of Birth: Tirana, Albania
  • Football Position(s): Left Midfielder

Murati is an Albanian-born professional player that secured a successful football career with the French team. Compared to Cana’s, Murati’s overall career was not the best. Although he made remarkable national stats, appearing in 42 games and scoring up to four goals, most of his appearances for PSG were on loans and free transfers.

Cana and Murati are just a few players that have played for famous clubs, including one of the most valuable clubs, PSG. Today, a large percentage of Albanian football players have played and are still playing internationally like:

  • Armando Broja
  • Thomas Fotaq Strakosha
  • Keidi Bare

and many more.

Conclusion

In terms of profitability, participation and entertainment, football is recognized across every nook and cranny of the earth. Even in places where football is thought to be non-existent, we have seen its impact. Albania, for example, has come through with its incredible record of citizens that have played in big football competitions.
