As was the case in the Argentina national team’s 2022 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 win over Australia, Lionel Messi has delivered for the CONMEBOL powerhouse in its quarterfinal round matchup against the Netherlands.
After a lackadaisical start in the attack, Messi played the role of a playmaker to get Argentina on the scoresheet. The Paris Saint-Germain star patrolled with the ball in the Netherlands’ defensive half and picked out Nahuel Molina with a stunning pass into the penalty box.
Molina took it from there, scoring Argentina’s opener against the Netherlands.
