Lionel Messi will become a free agent when his contract expires in June, but it appears as though the 35-year-old isn’t ready to leave Paris Saint-Germain quite yet.
After arriving in 2021 after his abrupt departure from FC Barcelona, Le Parisien reported on Wednesday that Messi does not intend to leave the French capital and will remain at the Parc des Princes for the 2023-2024 season.
The report states that exchanges were regular between the leaders of PSG and Jorge Messi, the veteran forward’s father and agent. Furthermore, an agreement was reached earlier this month and all that’s left is for both parties to agree on the term and financial details.
Furthermore, Messi seemed pretty easy to convince to continue his tenure with the French giants. Paris offers him two essential elements in his eyes: His family is happy and PSG allows him to stay at the top European level.
Messi and PSG will finalize those two essential aspects when he returns from vacation after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup as Argentina defeated France in penalty kicks on Sunday.
