Scaloni’s Messi Tweet in 2016 Once Again Goes Viral After Argentina’s World Cup Final Win vs. France

Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi finally did it. The PSG star guided the Argentina national team to triumph in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final, as he scored twice in the side’s dramatic win over France.

Messi has had quite a roller-coaster run with the Argentina national team. For one, he decided to call it quits six years ago after Chile came away with a penalty shootout victory over Argentina in the 2016 Copa America Centenario Final.

Many former Argentina players called for Messi to stay put with La Albiceleste, including Lionel Scaloni. The current Argentina manager took to Twitter three days after the Copa America final to plead to Messi to not leave the national team, posting a picture of the veteran forward surrounded by multiple Chilean players with a caption that read: “This image says it all… Don’t go Lio.”

The tweet went viral after Argentina won the 2021 Copa America, and it once again resurfaced on Twitter after the 2022 World Cup Final.

Scaloni and Messi sure have etched their names in La Albiceleste history.
