The Brazil national team hopes to punch its ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinals when the South American nation goes up against Croatia. Nonetheless, this tournament has been a dream for Vini Jr., who gets to play alongside his idol: Neymar Jr.
At a press conference, the Real Madrid star said he fulfills “a dream” by playing with Neymar and remarked how vital his advice is in leading the team.
“Playing with Neymar is fulfilling a dream,” Vini Jr. told reporters (h/t Deporte Total). “I followed his entire career, he had always been my biggest idol, and I wanted to do what he did on the field. Over time he became my friend; today, he is a brother who gives me a lot of advice.”
Additionally, Vini Jr. appreciated that Neymar takes “all the pressure” off the young players on the Brazil squad as they face the expectations of winning the tournament and ending the 20-year drought.
“He assumes [the pressure],” Vini Jr. added. “He also has the peace of mind that he can trust us. Being with him is living a dream that not everyone can. He is our best player, the idol of the majority here inside.”
Brazil can be two wins away from winning their first World Cup since 2002, and Vini Jr. can play a significant part in the CONMEBOL side reaching this accomplishment.
If the Seleção does indeed advance past Croatia, it sets up for a South American semifinal matchup should Argentina defeat the Netherlands.
