Piers Morgan Slams Lionel Messi for Behavior in Argentina-Netherlands Matchup

English television host Piers Morgan is going after Lionel Messi after how the 35-year-old behaved following Argentina’s win in penalty kicks over the Netherlands on Friday.

Messi got into two postgame spats, including a confrontation with their manager Louie van Gaal and the other getting into an altercation with Dutch striker Wout Weghorst.

Morgan went on Twitter Saturday and slammed the veteran forward, stating if Cristiano Ronaldo had done what the Argentine did, the media and many others would be going after the Portuguese star.

“So [Friday], Lionel Messi abused the referee, abused the rival coach and abused one of his opponents,” Morgan tweeted. “Methinks if Ronaldo did that, it would get a tad more media attention….”

Argentina and Messi have moved on from their quarterfinal matchup and will face off against Croatia in the semifinals with a ticket to the World Cup final hanging in the balance.

The South American nation wants to give Messi the storybook ending of winning the trophy that has long eluded him in his career and the team is two wins away from achieving that goal for the Paris Saint-Germain star.
