Neymar Opens Up on Just What It Took to Return From Injury in Brazil’s World Cup Matchup vs. South Korea

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar made his return to action in the Brazil national team’s 4-1 win over South Korea in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Round of 16.

Neymar was ruled out from Brazil’s final two matches of the World Cup group stage due to an ankle injury that he suffered during the 2-0 win over Serbia. There was early doubt regarding Neymar’s status for the remainder of the World Cup, but after he returned to training on Saturday, Brazil national team manager Tite later gave him the green light to play against South Korea.

After Brazil’s win over South Korea, Neymar touched on (via L’Equipe) just what it took to return from his ankle injury.

“I was very scared,” Neymar said. “It was very difficult after getting injured like I did. I was crying the entire night. My family knows what I had to go through. But in the end it all worked out.

“It was worth the effort to keep undergoing physiotherapy.”

The intensive physiotherapy treatment for Neymar sure was worth it. The PSG forward not only earned a start in Brazil’s World Cup round of 16 match, but he also chipped in with two total goal contributions in the contest.

Neymar is now set to lead Brazil in its upcoming World Cup quarterfinal encounter against Croatia.
