Neymar Jr. returned to Paris Saint-Germain filled with disappointment considering the Brazil national team crashed out in the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals, well below what many expected from the squad.
While likely filled with many emotions regarding how the tournament played out for the South American nation, Neymar also came back to the French capital nursing an injury.
The 30-year-old picked up an ankle injury in the first group stage match, causing him to miss the remainder of the fixtures and return for the Round of 16.
Ahead of PSG restarting its 2022-23 Ligue 1 season against Strasbourg, manager Christophe Galtier spoke on the physical condition of the Brazilian as he and the team attempt to get on the same page to finish the campaign on a high note.
“We saw his injury, his swollen ankle, but he was able to play two games behind,” Galtier told reporters Tuesday (h/t Canal Supporters). “He was able to take care of himself in the meantime and he had a cut for twelve days.
“He went home with his medical team around him to treat this ankle. When he returned on the 22nd, he worked as normal without restrictions. He’s fine physically [and] his ankle is fine. On a mental level, he really wants to play, so everything is fine.”
Neymar left for Qatar, playing some of the best football of his career; if PSG wants to win every trophy possible this season, they’ll need that version of the veteran forward.
