The future of Lionel Messi will be clear once the 2022 FIFA World Cup wraps up. The 35-year-old’s contract will expire in June and he has yet to decide where he wants to continue these last few years of his football career.
One of the options for the Argentine is to stay at Paris Saint-Germain, where he’s had a successful second season in the French capital after a challenging first year. However, the other option is heading to the United States to join Inter Miami.
In an interview with Foot Mercato, a former teammate of Messi’s, Cesc Fabregas, spoke about the veteran forward’s future and the rumors linking the PSG star to a move to South Florida.
“For his future at PSG? I don’t know, we don’t talk about that together, it’s still something very personal,” Fabregas said.
“I’ve seen that rumor going around lately [about joining Messi at Inter Miami]. For the moment, there is nothing. As I said, I am very happy in Como in this new project which is very important for me. For his part, Lionel is focused on the World Cup and PSG.”
It will be interesting to see what Messi opts to do with his career, considering that he still has the form to play in Europe but may want to get away from the weekly grind and head to MLS.
