Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni has lauded Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi as the “best” player in the history of world football.
Messi guided Argentina to a thrilling penalty shootout win over the Netherlands in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Quarterfinal round. The Argentine forward chipped in with two goal contributions during his 120 minutes on the pitch, and he also slotted home his penalty shootout attempt. In the end, Messi celebrated as Argentina clinched a spot in the semifinal round of the World Cup.
Overall, Messi won 10 ground duels and also created three goal-scoring chances for teammates in the match.
For Scaloni, as he touched on in his post-match press conference, he was left quite impressed by Messi’s performance on the day.
“He showed he is the best of all-time,” Scaloni said.
Next up for Argentina will be a date with Croatia in the World Cup semifinal round on Tuesday.
