Report: Argentina’s Projected Starting 11 vs. Mexico – Tactical Changes in Store for Messi?

After coming away with an upset defeat to Saudi Arabia, the Argentina national team will look to bounce back on Saturday in its 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage clash against Mexico.

The main storyline heading into this match centers on whether Argentina national team manager Lionel Scaloni will make any changes to the starting 11 that he went with against Saudi Arabia. According to TyC Sports, he may end up making several tactical changes across the board, especially for Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi.

Emiliano Martinez; Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Acuna; De Paul, Paredes, Fernandez; Di Maria, Messi, Lautaro Martínez

In Argentina’s 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia, Messi was slotted upfront as one of the two center forwards in Scaloni’s 4-4-2 setup for the contest. This time around against Mexico, Messi could either be called on to be the lone center forward upfront or be tucked in behind both Lautaro Martinez and Angel Di Maria as a central attacking midfielder.

Argentina needs a win over Mexico to keep its hopes alive of finishing in first place in Group C.
