Messi reveals the real reason why he was not a regular in collective training ahead of Argentina’s World Cup clash vs. Saudi Arabia

Over the past week, there was somewhat of a concern regarding Lionel Messi’s status for the Argentina national team’s 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage opener against Saudi Arabia.

For one, Messi missed multiple collective training sessions ahead of Argentina’s clash against Saudi Arabia. He at least made his return outdoors for a training session on Saturday, although he spent much time on the day away from the rest of the team.

During a press conference (via L’Equipe) on Monday, Messi downplayed concerns regarding his form heading into Argentina’s World Cup group stage opener.

“I’m having a good time, both personally and physically,” Messi said. “I’ve heard a lot of comments about me training apart and so on. I did get a hit, it was precautionary, but nothing serious.”

The PSG star last featured for Argentina in its 5-0 friendly win over the United Arab Emirates, where he chipped in with a goal and an assist in the contest.

Argentina is looking to maintain a first place standing after matchday one of the 2022 World Cup group stage.
