Lionel Messi is on the doorstep of once again making history in his storied career.
Messi last featured for PSG in its 2-1 away win over Juventus in UEFA Champions League group stage play, where he assisted Kylian Mbappe for the first goal of the contest. Overall, the Argentine forward made it four straight matches in all competitions with at least one assist recorded.
Messi also logged the 296th assist of his club career, with 14 of them coming this season at PSG. With a mere four more assists, he will become the first player ever in Europe’s top five leagues to record at least 300 club assists.
Messi will have to wait until the second half of the season to accomplish this feat, as PSG has a mere one more fixture left on its schedule before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. At the least, Messi could inch closer to reaching 300 career club assists in PSG’s upcoming Ligue 1 home fixture against AJ Auxerre.
Even at this stage in his career, Messi continues to prove that he sure has plenty left in the tank.
