Mbappe is Two Goals Away From Becoming the First French Player to Reach This Stunning Feat

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is on the doorstep of once again making history.

Stats Foot on Twitter notes that since 1950, there have been four instances where a French player in Europe’s five leagues scored at least 50 goals for club and country in a calendar year. Mbappe accomplished this feat last year, as he tallied 51 total goals for PSG and the France national team.

As it stands, Mbappe sits at a combined 48 goals for club and country in 2022, and he reached the 48 goals mark after scoring in France’s 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage victory over Australia on Tuesday.

Now, with a mere two more goals, Mbappe will become the first French player in Europe’s top five leagues since 1950 to have two different years with at least 50 goals scored in all competitions.

In the big picture, the PSG star could very well reach this feat in France’s upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage clash against Denmark.
