Manchester City Forward Rivals Messi In Fascinating Stat After Win Against Sevilla

Manchester City has Erling Haaland, who is crushing the competition both in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. However, another young forward that’s beginning to flourish is Julian Alvarez.

The 22-year-old arrived from River Plate and on Wednesday, the Argentine had an opportunity to start against Sevilla.

Alvarez used this game against the La Liga side to say he’s more than capable of filling for Haaland throughout the season. OptaJoe pointed out on Twitter that Alvarez made history with his one goal and two assists against the Spanish club.

The Manchester City forward became the youngest Argentinean to be directly involved in three goals in a Champions League match since Lionel Messi vs. FC Bayern München in April 2009, also under Pep Guardiola (21 years 288 days).

Alvarez matching a decade-old stat recorded by Messi during his time at Barcelona shows that the young forward has great potential. A performance like against Sevilla is a confidence booster as he continues to find his place in European football.
