Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez has claimed that Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi is the best player in world football today.
Speaking during a press conference ahead of Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League home group stage fixture against Sevilla, Alvarez took some time to laud his Argentina national team counterpart.
“You learn just by watching him,” Alvarez said. “It’s difficult to copy him but we know what he has done and is the best player in the world.
“I am lucky to share a changing room and pitch with him. I now have a chance to play alongside him.”
Even as Messi is at the backend of his career, he has continued to churn out stout performances for both PSG and the Argentina national team. He is just coming off of a quality performance in PSG’s 4-3 Ligue 1 home win over Troyes where he recorded one goal and one assist.
Overall, Messi currently sits at 25 total goal contributions in all competitions for the Ligue 1 powerhouse this season.
For now, Messi is set to lead PSG’s attack in its upcoming Champions League away group stage matchup against Serie A side Juventus.
