The FIFA World Cup is set to kick off in just a matter of days in Qatar and Brazil is one of the favorites to win the entire tournament. Two key Paris Saint-Germain players will feature for Brazil and their success, or lack thereof, could impact the French club for the rest of the season.
Sports streaming trends lead you to believe football fans around the world will be watching PSG and Brazil superstar Neymar Jr. in Qatar. The 30-year-old has yet to lead his home nation to World Cup glory—the most spectacular exit coming on home soil—and you have to imagine the 2022 edition will be his final chance to contribute in a major way.
With no World Cup title and no UEFA Champions League title with PSG, Neymar is feeling the pressure to finally deliver a major trophy. In fact, it’s been since the 2014-15 season when Neymar played for Barcelona that he last won a major trophy (Champions League). For a player of his quality and desire to be called one of the best to ever play the game, that’s simply not good enough.
His compatriot, Marquinhos, is also on the hot seat and needs to deliver for Brazil. The 28-year-old center-back is the captain of PSG but a shockingly poor performance against Real Madrid last season has many fans scratching their head and wondering if he’s capable of leading Brazil and PSG to glory.
There’s a lot on the line for both Neymar and Marquinhos in Qatar. Brazil is one of the favorites to win the World Cup and doing so would relieve a lot of pressure on both players. So, how could that benefit PSG?
Once the World Cup is over and assuming Brazil is the champions, Neymar and Marquinhos would return to the French capital to prepare for the second half of the season. Awaiting them is a date in February with FC Bayern Munich in the Round of 16 of the Champions League. PSG’s Brazilians should be able to handle that pressure, especially after a World Cup final, and that is important considering PSG’s capitulations on this stage in recent seasons.
After a bit of a drought when it comes to major titles, both Neymar and Marquinhos could win the World Cup and Champions League in the same season. It would be the culmination of a lot of hard work and heartache. So, while there’s no PSG football to watch at the moment, supporters should tune into Brazil’s matches and hope for the best when it comes to these two players.
