There was a minor injury concern for Paris Saint-Germain over the late stages of its 2-1 Ligue 1 away win over Lorient.
Minutes after Danilo Pereira provided PSG with the 2-1 lead in the contest, manager Christophe Galtier decided to sub off Kylian Mbappe, and he replaced him with Pablo Sarabia. Mbappe spoke with the team’s medical staff on the bench and was later seen walking into the locker room before the final whistle blew.
After the match (via L’Equipe), Galtier downplayed any concern over a notable injury for Mbappe, as he noted that the French forward is dealing with “muscle fatigue” at this late stage in the first half of the season.
“Muscle fatigue, but no worries,” Galtier said. “There is no alert on a specific area. It’s simply fatigue, linked to the sequence of matches. The playing conditions were difficult. The ground was hard to master technically.
“And then we faced an opponent who played hard and gave us problems in the second half. … He came out tired in the game against Juventus on Wednesday night. … It is a very busy schedule. There can be some apprehension. Everyone is listening to his body in this pre-World Cup and pre-list period.”
PSG has a mere one more match left on its schedule before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as it will meet AJ Auxerre for a Ligue 1 home fixture next week. It will be noteworthy to see whether Galtier will opt to not include Mbappe in the squad list for this contest as a simple precaution.
