Alan Shearer Explains Why This PSG Star is the ‘Best in the World Right Now’

Former England international Alan Shearer has lauded Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe as the best player in the world “right now.”

Mbappe has opened up his 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in dominant fashion. The PSG forward is currently tied with Portugal playmaker Bruno Fernandes for the most goal contributions at the tournament with four. He is just coming off a keen performance in the France national team’s 2-1 group stage win over Denmark, where he scored a pair of goals and also created three goal-scoring chances for teammates.

Shearer has been closely watching the World Cup, and as he told The Athletic, he continues to be impressed by the French forward.

“He’s a complete goalscorer with a sprinter’s build and no technical weaknesses,” Shearer said. “He’s the best in the world right now, was a World Cup winner at 19.”

Overall, Mbappe has logged 29 total goal contributions for PSG and France this season.

Mbappe may go on to start in France’s World Cup group stage finale against Tunisia on Wednesday.
