Achraf Hakimi Reacts to Sergio Ramos’ Snub From Spain National Team for 2022 World Cup

Spanish national team manager Luis Enrique revealed the list of players he will be taking to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Friday. However, one of the names not on the list is Sergio Ramos.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender struggled last season to stay fit, but the 35-year-old has stayed healthy this 2022-23 campaign for the French giants, but it wasn’t enough for Enrique to take him to Qatar.

After the announcement was made, PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi came to the veteran defender’s defense, reacting to the snub on Twitter.

“Sergio Ramos Best defend in the world,” Hakimi tweeted

When it was known that Ramos was not going to be a part of the Spanish national team, of course the media wanted to know why, but Enrique wasn’t going to give them one.

“I won’t assess the players who aren’t on the list,” Enrique said in a news conference when asked about Ramos (h/t ESPN).

Here are the defenders that Spain will be taking over Ramos:

  • Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)
  • Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid)
  • Eric Garcia (Barcelona)
  • Hugo Guillamon (Valencia)
  • Pau Torres (Villarreal)
  • Aymeric Laporte (Manchester City)
  • Jordi Alba (Barcelona)
  • Jose Gaya (Valencia)
