Why Pochettino Must Take Aston Villa Job, According to English Pundit

The 2022-23 football season is reaching the point where various coaches are on the hot seat or have been sacked. As a result, former Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino sees his name in the rumor mill.

Pochettino has been consistently linked to Aston Villa, and now after the sacking of manager Steven Gerrard, those rumors will get louder. The Lions have two wins in six Premier League matches and are battling to stay out of the relegation zone.

On Friday, talkSPORT pundit Tim Sherwood explained why there’s no bigger job out there for Pochettino to take than if Aston Villa offered him the job.

“I mean, the top of the list has to be Pochettino with his style of play and what he’s done at Tottenham,” Sherwood said. “He built Tottenham as well, didn’t he? I mean, he took Tottenham to the Champions League regularly. “He’s a very good manager, likes to work with younger players.

“I don’t think if Pochettino goes in there, he will be doing Aston Villa a favor, not by any means. Like I mentioned before, this is a huge football club, what clubs are out there for Pochettino at the moment? I’m not sure there’s a bigger club than Aston Villa out there for him, so I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for him to come back.”

The 50-year-old opted to play the waiting game rather than jump into a job after his firing from PSG this past summer. Pochettino reportedly wants to wait until after the FIFA World Cup, and perhaps a more attractive job can open up.

Nonetheless, if Sherwood is accurate with his statements, Pochettino won’t be finding a better one than Aston Villa.
