Which Teams Can Realistically Sign Mbappé if PSG is Forced to Sell?

Paris Saint-Germain supporters are still trying to come to grips with the groundbreaking news that Kylian Mbappé apparently wants to leave the club just a few months after signing a new two-year contract at the club.

Under new manager Christophe Galtier, PSG has seen success this season, and if you were to take advantage of a betfair sign up offer, you would have to put money on them to retain their Ligue 1 title and even win the UEFA Champions League considering the world-class players in the squad.

Unfortunately, those goals seem like a distant memory as several outlets around Europe reported that Mbappé is unhappy with PSG’s leadership and feels that they did not deliver on the promises that were made when he signed a new contract. Not only is the Frenchman unhappy, but he reportedly wants to leave the club as early as the January transfer window. PSG has denied these reports, but where there is smoke, there is fire.

So, if PSG were to sell in January, or next summer when it is more feasible for clubs, where might Mbappé land?

Real Madrid

The obvious answer is Real Madrid. This is a club that has been trying to sign Mbappé since he was at AS Monaco and the admiration is mutual. Mbappé visited Real Madrid before becoming a professional footballer and had posters of Cristiano Ronaldo on his wall.

It seems like a perfect match, however, there are two issues that could hold up a deal. First, Real Madrid could have signed Mbappé on a free transfer, but now, they’ll have to pay a significant transfer fee in addition to his wages. With certain player sales, Los Blancos could likely afford him, but do they want to put so much of their wage bill into one player?

The second issue is more about pride. Mbappé had one foot in Madrid before he decided to turn them down and sign a new deal at PSG. The Spanish club has a lot of pride and you have to wonder if they’ll want to return for a player that made them look really bad earlier this year.

Chelsea FC

Erling Haaland is currently lighting up the Premier League, so I can see Mbappé wanting to go there and test his skills and perhaps take some of the limelight away from the Manchester City striker.

Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly, wants to make a splash, and what better way to do that than to sign Mbappé? Financially, it might take some player sales to free up the necessary cash, but Boehly has deep pockets and will certainly be in the running to sign Mbappé.

Manchester United

As I mentioned earlier, Haaland is scoring at will in the Premier League for Manchester City and that has to be a source of annoyance for Manchester United. The once proud club has fallen on hard times and a signing like Mbappé would be a source of great optimism for the club and its supporters.

A club with the financial power of Manchester United should be able to afford Mbappé, but will they actually pull the trigger on the deal? Afterall, it’s been awhile since they signed a super star player like Mbappé. If they continue to slip down the table, though, they just might be forced to.
