(Video) Former PSG Striker Explains How 6-1 Loss to Barcelona in 2017 Affected Mental Health

Mental health is a strong topic of discussion, and athletes from various sports have opened up about their battle. Former Paris Saint-Germain striker Edison Cavani opened up about his struggles following the infamous 6-1 game against FC Barcelona.

The now Valencia striker stated to Spanish outlet Relevo that after that game, he sought help from the PSG doctor to figure out what was happening to him after the capital club choked away their 4-0 lead at the Camp Nou in 2017.

“The first time that I went there, it was after the return of Barça against PSG,” Cavani said. It affected me a lot and there are things that overload you. In five minutes, everything we had done was swept away.

“It’s such a big blow that you can’t control and although it’s just football, it affects other parts of you, with symptoms of anxiety, cold sweats… I had dizziness while falling asleep. I asked myself: ‘Do I have a problem in my head?’ I went to see the PSG doctor, whom I adore, and he said to me: ‘What is happening to you is happening to a lot of people in different fields’”
