The hearts of Argentina and Paris Saint-Germain supporters were held collectively when Lionel Messi exited the 1-1 draw match against Benfica on Wednesday at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
Messi scored the opening goal against the Portuguese giants but couldn’t finish the game along with left-back Nuno Mendes as both players picked up knocks in Lisbon, one more serious than the other.
After the match, manager Christophe Galtier spoke postgame, providing a quick update on the injuries to Messi and Mendes.
“The exits of Messi and Mendes? Leo came out tired,” Galtier told reporters postgame. “He signaled to us a minute or two before his replacement. Regarding Mendes, he had a big muscular incident and he will be out for a few matches.”

"Leo (Messi) est sorti fatigué, mais ça va… Concernant Nuno Mendes, il a eu un gros incident musculaire. Evidemment qu'il sera forfait pour quelques matches !" 😢
