Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi will decide on his future after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, the 35-year-old wants to wait until after the tournament before choosing where he would like to continue his career.
Nonetheless, the French giants would like to lock up Messi, and reportedly, the capital club and sporting advisor Luis Campos agree that the veteran forward should stay in Paris past this 2022-23 season.
Le Parisien reported on Monday that Campos is currently managing the file of Messi’s extension and that the Portuguese executive regularly repeats to the seven-time Ballon d’Or that he wants to see him wear the Parisian jersey after the end of the campaign.
While the club is subject to significant losses (€350 million for the 2021-2022 season), the leaders are looking for the right formula so as not to put themselves in even more danger by attempting to extend Messi past this season.
Additionally, having Messi until 2025, which Le Parisien reports as the length of a possible contract extension, could also help PSG off the pitch as more sponsors would like to be part of the Argentine still in the picture.
