Report: PSG Club Chief Targeting Manchester City Leader to Continue Improving Midfield

Paris Saint-Germain sporting advisor Luis Camps overhauled the midfield this past summer transfer window. The Portuguese club chief brought in four players, and it appears he still needs to finish the rebuild.

Campos brought many young players to the midfield, the oldest being Fabián Ruiz at 26 years old. The oldest is Marco Verratti, who is 29, so there’s no veteran leadership outside of Danilo Pereira.

Although Pereira is technically a midfielder, this season, he’s served in a hybrid role going back and forth between the central defense and midfield, which is why Campos is reportedly targeting Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan.

Matteo Moretto reports (h/t Canal Supporters) that #PSG closely follows the situation of Gundogan as the 32-year-old’s contract expires in June 2023.

Campos has great esteem for the player and would be ready to sign him if the Germany international does not extend his contract with Manchester City. The report doesn’t reveal whether PSG will push for a January move or wait until Gundogan’s contract expires.

PSG hasn’t had any luck signing veteran midfielders recently as Ander Herrera and Georginio Wijnaldum flopped in the French capital.
