Report: Aston Villa ‘Sounded Out’ Two Ex-PSG Managers to Replace Steven Gerrard

When Paris Saint-Germain sacked Mauricio Pochettino in July, the Argentine tactician opted to play the waiting game for his next jump rather than jumping at the first available coaching job.

Pochettino was recently linked to OGC Nice, but that has yet to result in the former PSG boss accepting the job, and now his name is surfacing with a Premier League club.

On Saturday, Football Insider (h/t Football 365) reported that with Aston Villa struggling out of the gate with two wins in their seven matches, Pochettinio’s name is being ‘sounded out’ should Steven Gerrard be sacked.

Furthermore, Pochettino isn’t the only former PSG manager being linked to Aston Villa, as Unai Emery is also a name in the mix. Emery has been successful, with Villarreal winning the UEFA Europa League in 2021.

Emery could be looking to redeem himself in the Premier League after an unsuccessful stint at Arsenal, and Pochettino’s best time as a manager has come in England. Additionally, both coaches would possibly take over a club that’s doesn’t have the pressures of an Arsenal or PSG.

Aston Villa plays Sunday against Leeds United, and should Gerrard not get a win, the rumors of a sacking will get louder.
