Lionel Messi has been dominant for Paris Saint-Germain this 2022-23 football season as the 35-year-old proves that last year was a fluke.
The Argentine racked up his 10th assist of the Ligue 1 season following PSG’s 4-3 win over Troyes on Saturday at the Parc des Princes. Messi has 13 assists in all competitions for the French giants.
Nonetheless, only one player can say they’re keeping up with Messi in the assist column: PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo. ‘
Squawka points out on Twitter that the 23-year-old joins the PSG star as the only two players to provide 10+ assists in Europe’s top seven leagues so far this season.
Messi might have a challenger for the top playmaker in Europe’s top leagues. However, with the veteran forward having teammates like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Jr., he has the upper hand to come away with that crown possibly.
As the former Barcelona star continues to play at a high level, the capital club is hoping to extend Messi since his contract expires in June 2023.
