Since arriving at Paris Saint-Germain in Aug. 2021, Lionel Messi has settled into the facilitator role. During the 2021-22 season, the Argentine provided the assists but not the games; however, this campaign, he’s doing both.
Although the goals are coming at a frequent pace for Messi, the 35-year-old’s assist production is one of the best in European football. The veteran forward had a two-assist performance for PSG in their 3-0 win over AC Ajaccio on Friday at the Estadio François-Coty.
OptaJean pointed out on Twitter that Messi’s two assists have the PSG star as one of the best facilitators in Europe as the Argentine has delivered eight assists with the French giants this 2022-23 Ligue 1 season.
Furthermore, only one player is outproducing Messi in the assist game this campaign as Kevin De Bruyne (nine assists with Manchester City in the Premier League) is doing better among the European Top 5 leagues.
If Messi continues to produce at this rate when it comes to assists, PSG might have the best version of the veteran attacker at this stage in his career and will play a vital role in the Ligue 1 side making a deep run in the UEFA Champions League.
