La Liga Return? Where Lionel Messi Is Reportedly Headed Next Season

The future of Lionel Messi will be decided after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as the 35-year-old has his eyes set on winning the trophy that has long eluded him with Argentina.

Messi doesn’t want any distractions to take him away from what’s important come November. However, media outlets will still be reporting on his future, considering Messi’s contract expires in June 2023.

A possible return to FC Barcelona has been rumored, with club president Joan Laporta making it a priority for the Argentine forward to return to the Camp Nou. Now El Chiringuito reported on Sunday that a return to the Catalan side appears imminent.

The Spanish program’s host, Josep Pedrerol, stated that those within the MLS, Messi has been linked to Inter Miami in the past, believe that the PSG forward will be returning to Barcelona next summer.

“People close to Messi had commented that those who rule in the North American league were for next season; it can’t be yet,” Pedrerol said. “Why? Messi wants to play for Barça.

“That is what was said in that meeting of very important people in the North American League. Next season. Messi will not be able to be [in MLS] yet because he wants to return to Barça.”

It was recently reported PSG has a one-year deal plus an option for a second on the table for Messi, so the French giants would like for the Argentine to remain past this 2022-23 football season.
