Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappé have been in the headlines this week for anything but football, whether it’s the 23-year-old asking out of the French capital or the Mediapart story about PSG hiring an agency to troll Mbappé.
The last few days have been filled with drama, and one of the players chiming in on what’s occurring at PSG is former Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
Drogba appeared on RTL (h/t Canal Supporters), stating that all Mbappé is asking for from management is respect.
“I think what Mbappé is asking for is respect,” Drogba said. “Don’t forget that he is young, so the little mistakes he will make, but you still have to be lenient with him. It’s someone who represents France, who is world champion, who gave you a world cup. So at some point, you have to calm things down.”
It will be interesting to see if this off-the-pitch news eventually blows over and goes away as the 2022-23 football season continues, especially with the 2022 FIFA World Cup smashed in between and if PSG goes on a deep UEFA Champions League run.
However, there’s also the possibility of this really fracturing the relationship between club and player, which could lead to Mbappé asking for a transfer next summer despite signing a contract extension a few months ago.
