The 2022 FIFA World Cup is less than a month away and various players, past and present, are sharing who they believe are the favorites to win the tournament, with some selecting Lionel Messi and Argentina.
Former Brazil international Ronaldo, who was part of the 2002 Brazilian team that won the World Cup, believes Messi deserves to win the World Cup but is unwilling to go as far as to say the veteran forward will win the tournament.
“Argentina winning the World Cup is nothing to think about,” Ronaldo said (h/t AS). “Messi deserves it, of course, but not with my support.”
Perhaps believing in Brazil’s team prevents Ronaldo from picking Argentina to win the competition.
Nonetheless, anyone that doesn’t have a horse in the World Cup race will no doubt be pulling for the storybook ending. Messi is playing in his last World Cup as he attempts to win the trophy that has long eluded him.
In 2021, Messi finally won his first international trophy with Argentina, winning the Copa América by beating rivals Brazil, so now the PSG star will see if he can lift the most prestigious honor in international football.
