Ex-USMNT Manager Explains Why Many Want PSG Foward to Win World Cup

After the latest round of international friendlies, there’s a smell in the air that the 2022 FIFA World Cup is right around the corner, with the tournament kicking off in late November in Qatar.

Over the next few weeks, plenty of pundits will be making predictions as to which teams will be getting out of the group stage, which will disappoint, and more importantly, who wins the tournament.

The former United States men’s national team coach Jürgen Klinsmann spoke to Argentine media outlet La Nación (h/t AS). He stated that many in the football world want to see Lionel Messi win the World Cup in what is likely his last tournament.

“I think that everyone in football has a wish, and that is that Messi, with his incredible talent, with everything he has done in his career, with how tremendously well he represents football, win the World Cup like Diego did,” Klinsmann said.

“Messi deserves it more than anyone. Messi should take the World Cup from Qatar to his house.”

It will be interesting to see if Argentina, which won its first international with Messi as a figure on the national team last year, can carry the momentum into Qatar.

Argentina looked dominant during the international window against Honduras and Jamaica, so if the South American nation is going to win a World Cup, this could be their year.
