Neymar arrived from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, and despite being in the French capital for five years while signing a contract extension last year, the 30-year-old has been linked to a departure.
A return to Barcelona was near in 2019, but a transaction between the two clubs never occurred. Former Brazilian footballer Kaká gave some insight into what those moments were like for Neymar.
“We are close friends,” Kaká told beIN SPORTS (h/t Olé). “I spoke a lot with Neymar, and of course, he had a bad time at PSG the year he wanted to return to Barcelona, and he had problems with the fans.
“Today, he is happy. He thinks it’s a long-term project. So year after year, the team is getting stronger, they are building more cohesion to win something really important like the Champions League, but he is happy in Paris and at PSG.”
Neymar has also been linked to a departure this past summer transfer window, with rumors connecting the Brazil international to Chelsea, but no move ever occurred.
Furthermore, PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos stated that it was a mistake for the capital club to bring in both Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Although rumors have seen the Brazilian near the exit door, he has remained in Paris.
It appears Neymar will likely spend the rest of his European career with PSG, considering not many clubs can afford to pay a transfer fee and his wages.
