How Lionel Messi’s 2022-23 Season Has Impressed PSG Club Chief

After enduring a tough first season with Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi has bounced back with a good start in the 2022-23 campaign domestically and internationally.

Messi scored in PSG’s UEFA Champions League matchup against Maccabi Haifa as the 35-year-old continues his excellent form, which bodes well for the Argentina national team ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Sporting advisor Luis Campos appeared on RMC Sport’s Rothen s’enflamme (h/t Paris Fans), where the club chief spoke about how he has seen Messi perform this season.

“I’m very happy with Messi,” Campos said. “Messi last year is a player who played 20 years in Barcelona, he is the icon of Barcelona. You change to a completely different football, a completely different environment; it’s not football like in Barcelona. He arrives in a totally different championship.

“That means he needs to take his time, and this year, we have a Messi who I think is more and more capable of reaching a much higher level, in a much more natural way than he did last year. It’s difficult. Even I am 58 years old; when I change cities, it also costs me a lot. You have to take the time.”

Additionally, Campos was asked about the future of Messi in the French capital considering the Argentine’s contract expires in 2023. Messi has stated that he’d wait until after the FIFA World Cup, which begins in late November, to decide his future.

Nonetheless, PSG will try everything to convince Messi to remain and turn down possible interest from FC Barcelona, who want him to return and MLS, as Inter Miami has long had eyes on him.
