One of the hottest debates in the world of football is that of PSG being able to win the Premier League. But could PSG be the best premier league team to compete if they ever were granted special access to join?
Paris Saint-Germain
Paris Saint-Germain is one of the biggest football clubs in the world. It has one of the largest followings in the world and for good reason. PSG is the current best team in the French Ligue 1 and after last year’s dominance, they look to repeat the results for the third time in a row.
After acquiring world-renowned Lionel Messi in 2021 PSG placed itself as one of the strongest teams in the world. With stars like Neymar Jr., Kylian Mbappé, Marco Verratti, and many more, the team is looking to have an excellent season. In fact as of currently with just 4 games in they are already setting themselves apart from the competition, even though they are currently drawn for first place with Marseille and Lens.
They already have an outstanding 14-goal difference advantage which is double that of Marseille who’s currently following with a 7-goal advantage. Recent tactical changes from Veratti for Messi have definitely helped the overall performance of the French squad.
PSG In The Champions League
When it comes to the Champions League, PSG is yet to bring the trophy home. In fact, the closest they have ever been to victory was in the 2019-2020 champions league and upset the game-changing odds on the top betting apps when they lost to Bayern Munich. So why exactly are we mentioning the champions league and not the premier?
If we look at the last 20 years of champions league history the winner has dominantly been from La Liga with teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid, the Premier League, and even the Bundesliga thanks to Bayern Munich.
The Premier League
The premier league is said to be one of the toughest football leagues to compete in if not the toughest and is home to some of the best football teams in the world. The premier league has long been ongoing and it’s certainly set to keep its reign as the most viewed league in the world.
PSG on the other hand takes part in Ligue 1 which is not considered to be on par with premier league teams as a whole. The Premier League is currently home to some of the world’s best players and unlike Ligue one the world-renowned players do not belong to just 1 team.
A quick look into Premier League and Ligue 1 fixtures clearly paint out the picture currently present.
PSG In The Premier League
PSG, although the strongest team in Ligue 1, will definitely have its struggles in the Premier League even with star players like Messi and Neymar. Yes PSG dominated the Ligue 1 in the last two years but the level of the league as a whole should be considered. The Premier League as we stated earlier is home to the toughest competing league in the world.
Almost every team in the premier league is super competitive and is in fact the only league to have over 3 teams win the champions league at least once. That being said, the most dominant champions league winners are in fact from the La Liga, so what would PSG look like if they had to compete in the EPL?
Well, they definitely are strong contenders in their own league and the champions league while definitely being a super hard team to beat. Manchester City will definitely be the team to beat in the EPL since they have been dominating the premier league for almost a decade if it wasn’t for Liverpool.
Man City and PSG are often compared since they are considered to have the wealthiest owners in their own leagues. Having richer owners means your transfer window budget is also wealthier and that means better players than the competition.
That being said both teams with all their wealth have been unsuccessful in the Champions League and in fact Liverpool and Chelsea have been the two teams in the EPL to win the champions league in the last 10 years.
