Juventus center-back Leonardo Bonucci has squared off against some of the more prolific attacking groups over the past decade. Now, he may be set for another crucial challenge in his career, as he could end up leading the Bianconeri’s backline for the side’s UEFA Champions League away group stage fixture against Paris Saint-Germain.
For the Ligue 1 powerhouse, it is set to roll out Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe to lead its attack upfront. Bonucci has been keeping a close watch on this trio’s early success in the season, and in speaking during a pre-match press conference (via Corrieire dello Sport) ahead of the contest, he not only took some time to laud Mbappe but also touched on the plan to contain all three star attackers.
“He is a stratospheric player, he has everything to become the best footballer in the world,” Bonucci said. “The future and age are on his side, I am also sure that because of the mentality he has, the way he talks, he has the desire to grow.
“It will be hard to play against him, against Messi, against Neymar, against PSG itself, we need teamwork to stop them.”
Only one side has managed to slow down PSG’s star-studded attacking trio this season; AS Monaco did not allow an open play goal to either of the three in their Ligue 1 contest against the reigning France top flight champions last month.
PSG will look to extend its undefeated streak going in its upcoming clash with the Serie A side.
The best way to beat them is… by scoring our own goals!
Not pessimistic by nature, but I think all 3 will score as they will be fed by a superior midfield with an attacking mindset all day.
