Paris Saint-Germain is set to offload another player with no future in the French capital, and Julian Draxler is the next to depart. After reports linked the 28-year-old to Valencia, the Germany international is heading to Portugal.
On Wednesday, Portuguese journalist Bruno Andrade reported that Draxler is on his way to joining Benfica, who PSG will be facing in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
The Lisbon-based club will be paying a €2.5 million loan fee with no purchase option, but the capital club will be responsible for Draxler’s entire salary. Nonetheless, it gets another play out the door that the French giants had no interest in using this season.
At Benfica, Draxler will look to use the opportunity to kickstart his career and hope it translates to a call-up to the Germany national team this November at the FIFA World Cup.
PSG expects that Draxler performs well and can offload him next summer, whether to Benfica or perhaps another interested club intrigued by his performance this season.
