Ramos Shares Early Impressions of PSG Manager Galtier’s Tactical System

After playing in four preseason friendly fixtures under Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier’s new tactical setup, the side had its first real test in the system during the 2022 Trophee des Champions Final against Nantes.

PSG clinched a convincing 4-0 win in the match. From Lionel Messi and Neymar forming keen chemistry to PSG’s backline holding Nantes to a mere two total shots on target, the Ligue 1 powerhouse orchestrated quite a performance in its first official match of the new season.

Galtier rolled out a three-at-the-back setup in the final, and from Sergio Ramos’ standpoint (via Prime Video Sport France), he much approves of the French manager’s early tactics for the team.

“Very good, it’s a new system too,” Ramos said. “We played a little bit last season, but not like this. We will work on movements, timing and coverages. We still need to work on defensive stability, but I think it’s a solid system for our level.

“It keeps the offensive system very high and it’s nice to play with three center backs.”

PSG will now turn its attention to its Ligue 1 opener, which will come with an away matchup against Clermont Foot on Aug. 6.
