Paris Saint-Germain once again had its way in Ligue 1 play, as it scored seven past Lille OSC on matchday three. As was the case in the wins over both Clermont Foot and Montpellier, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar all chipped in with crucial goal contributions against Lille OSC.
Overall, Messi, Neymar and Mbappe were all quite unselfish when on the ball in the contest; they combined for 10 total goal-scoring chances created.
In his post-game press conference (via L’Equipe), PSG manager Christophe Galtier noted that he changed up his attacking setup for this contest, as Messi and Neymar were a bit further apart on the pitch than in the opening two league matches of the campaign. Galtier clarified that this was done in order to “find the best balance possible” on the pitch.
“The set-up changes with the presence of Kylian Mbappe,” Galtier said. “We’re trying to find the best balance possible. Leo, Kylian and Ney played like this last season but in a different formation. Tonight, they played for each other.
“Even when the game was decided, they tracked back and worked together. I enjoyed their desire to play together.”
Out of this trio, it sure has been Neymar who is most enjoying playing under Galtier. He currently sits at an astounding 11 total goal contributions through three Ligue 1 matches played this season.
Next up for PSG will be a home clash against an AS Monaco side that holds 11th place in the Ligue 1 standings.
