Fabian Ruiz Opens Up on the Decision to Leave Napoli for PSG

Paris Saint-Germain once again added depth to its midfield group in the ongoing summer transfer window, as it signed Fabian Ruiz from Serie A side Napoli on a permanent transfer deal. PSG agreed to bring in the veteran Spanish midfielder on a five-year contract deal.

Ruiz left Napoli following a four-season run at the club. Now, Ruiz, as he spoke about to PSG TV, is looking forward to making the most out of his run with the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

“I am delighted to join Paris Saint-Germain,” Ruiz said. “It is great for me to start this new stage of my career in this country. And I am proud to be joining one of the best clubs in Europe with the best players in the world. It’s a really exciting challenge.

“It’s always a huge challenge to join a big club, because it forces you to give your best. I’m going to have the best players with me and this incredible club to play for, so I’m going to have to be at my best every day to live up to the club. Being able to share a dressing room with the best players in the world is something to be proud of.”

Ruiz won one trophy during his run at Napoli, as he played an instrumental role in its win over Juventus in the 2020 Coppa Italia Final. Now at PSG, the versatile midfielder is looking to fill up his trophy cabinet.

“I want to be seen to give my best every time I step on the pitch,” Ruiz said. “I hope to win as many titles as possible, because I think this club really deserves to be at the top. I want to show that I come with commitment, the desire to work and with the right mindset. I think that’s the most important thing for a player.”

For now, it remains to be seen on just when Ruiz may make his debut at PSG. The Ligue 1 powerhouse is currently set for an away league fixture against Toulouse on Wednesday.
