Before joining Paris Saint-Germain, striker Hugo Ekitiké saw his name in connection with a potential move to Newcastle United. The Magpies pushed for a deal to occur, but eventually, it stalled. As a result, it allowed the capital club to swoop for the taking.
Ekitiké spoke with Le Parisien on various subjects, one of them being his transfer to the capital club. The 20-year-old striker stated that sporting advisor Luis Campos played a large role.
Furthermore, he added that being courted by arguably the biggest club in France is something a player can’t refuse.
“I had an appointment with Luis (Campos), which meant a lot to me,” Ekitiké said to the French publication. “It was not so long ago. We talked a lot; he is someone I consider enormously.”
“I wanted to come to PSG before this exchange, but it convinced me even more. I don’t put aside everything Newcastle did to get me to come. If I had to go abroad, I would have gone there. But when PSG wants you and you’re French, you can’t refuse.”
The former Stade de Reims striker was ten when Qatar Sports Investment became majority owners of the capital club in 2012, so players his age have seen PSG grow into a club that can attract star players.
Ekitiké hopes to be the next great French and star player at Les Parsiens during his stint with the current Ligue 1 champions.
