Report: The Reason Why Mbappe Will Not Be Able to Play in the Trophee des Champions Final vs. Nantes

The first official match of the Christophe Galtier managerial era at Paris Saint-Germain will come in the 2022 Trophee des Champions Final against Nantes later this month. However, Galtier will not be able to call upon Kylian Mbappe for the fixture.

As noted by L’Equipe, Mbappe is set to not be available to feature in this upcoming final due to a yellow card suspension that will carry over from the 2021-2022 Ligue 1 season. Mbappe earned three yellow cards over a 10-match span over the latter stages of the league season, with the final one coming at the 85th minute of PSG’s 4-0 away league win against Montpellier, which was the club’s 37th match of the campaign.

The LFP Disciplinary Committee did not hand out this one-game suspension for PSG’s Ligue 1 season finale against Metz, so Mbappe will have to serve the ban for the side’s Trophee des Champions final clash with Nantes.

Mbappe missed last year’s 2021 Trophee des Champions Final against Lille OSC, as he continued to work on his fitness and conditioning after featuring in the Euro 2020 tournament.

In the big picture, Galtier will have to rely on the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar to lead PSG’s attack against Nantes.
