Report: Real Madrid Made a Late Push to Sign Former PSG Prospect Xavi Simons

Xavi Simons provided quite a surprise last week as he opted to complete a free transfer move to Eredivisie side PSV. Even as Simons had garnered reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain to re-sign, he elected to instead make a move to the Dutch powerhouse.

Simons did not have a shortage of suitors interested in coming to terms with him on a free transfer deal, as Real Madrid also inquired about the possibility of signing him to such an agreement, as noted by L’Equipe (via Le10Sport).

The La Liga side came in contact with the representatives for the Dutch midfielder, but in the end, the club’s project did not necessarily convince him.

Simons noted last week that among the reasons for his call to leave PSG for PSV was to earn more playing time minutes. This came following a season where he logged a mere one start in Ligue 1 play for PSG.

Much attention sure will now be on whether Simons will be able to elevate his play over the upcoming Eredivisie campaign with PSV.
